Question: 

Where can I ask for advice and have my Cartier jewelry repaired?

Response: 

We invite you to:
- visit the Cartier boutique of your choice, taking care to bring the warranty certificate for your product;
- or to contact an adviser at out Client Relations Center at 1-800-Cartier (1-800-227-8437).
When you have entrusted your piece of jewelry to us, our Cartier jewelers will examine it, define the type of service that needs to be carried out and send you an estimate. Once you have accepted the estimate, the service will be carried out as quickly as possible.

Question: 

How can I avoid damaging my jewelry?

Response: 

By following a few simple tips you will be able to keep them in their original condition for many years to come. The permanent contact between your jewelry and your skin, and its exposure to different weather conditions, pollution or accidental knocks all mean that it requires care and attention. Here are our recommendations:
- If possible, remove your jewelry before starting any activity that might damage it, such as playing sport, cooking or gardening.
- Avoid any contact with cosmetic or household products, since they contain ingredients that could discolor your jewelry.
- Avoid rapid changes of temperature.
- Store your jewelry in an individual case, in their original Cartier case or in the separate compartment of a jewelry box. Chains should be closed, wrapped up and laid flat so as to avoid the formation of knots.

Question: 

How can I maintain my jewelry?

Response: 
  • Regularly check the clasps.
  • If your jewelry contains lapis lazuli, coral, pearls, turquoises or emeralds, or if in general it contains a significant cluster of stones, the task of cleaning it should be entrusted to one of our specialists at a Cartier boutique.
  • If it does not contain this kind of stone, soak it regularly for a few minutes at a time in warm soapy water (using only soap with a neutral pH). Scrub it regularly with a very soft toothbrush. Rinse it carefully in warm water and wipe it with a soft cloth, a chamois leather or a clean microfiber tissue.

Question: 

How can I take care of my precious stones?

Response: 
  • Always protect them from any potential knocks. Even diamonds, the hardest of all precious stones, may become broken, chipped, or scratched by repeated blows.
  • Regularly check the prongs and settings of your stones.
  • Have your jewelry cleaned if the stones start to lose their shine or take on a dull appearance.

How can I take care of my pearls?

Response: 
  • If you wear your pearls regularly, have their stringing checked once a year.
  • Avoid spraying perfume on pearls.
  • Clean them with a damp cloth, using neither soap nor detergent.
  • Store them separately in an individual case. They could potentially be damaged by light, heat or by contact with soap, detergents, or dyes.
Question: 

Do I need to have my jewelry polished regularly?

Response: 
  • For the vast majority of jewelry, polishing makes it possible to remove or limit scratching on gold surfaces. Given that this operation involves the removal of a fine layer of metal, we recommend that you not have this service carried out more than: twice in the lifetime of a piece of jewelry made of white gold or three times in the lifetime of a piece of jewelry made of yellow gold.
    Check beforehand with our Cartier jewelers that your model can be polished. The Rapid Shine Service, a less intense polishing operation, is also available for the removal of superficial scratches on some yellow and pink gold models. Our technicians are at your disposal to carry out a diagnosis and recommend the service that best suits your requirements.
Question: 

Why do scratches appear on the stones in my rings?

Response: 

Two pieces of jewelry may be affected by being worn side by side. The friction between two circles within the same ring, or around the edges of each stone, may explain the scratches that can often be observed.

Question: 

How has the gem-setting on my ring come to be damaged?

Response: 

An accidental knock may have damaged the setting of the stone, which could explain its instability. We are not always aware of what we inflict upon our jewels, and especially on rings, through contact with keys, bags, car-doors, etc. They have been designed in accordance with the same criteria of excellence as in the past, but today's lifestyle presents them with a much more challenging environment.

Question: 

My ring has been subjected to an accidental knock. How can I return it to its original appearance?

Response: 

When a knock damages the body of a ring, it is impossible to carry out a refurbishment. It is only by a reconstruction, i.e., the production of an identical copy of the body of your ring, that you will be able to restore it to its original condition.

Question: 

Will I be able to have the size of my Cartier ring adjusted at a future time?

Response: 

Cartier provides you with the opportunity to have the size of your ring adjusted. However, this service is only available for certain types of ring and certain models.

Question: 

The Cartier boutique that I have visited has told me that they do not have a ring in my size. Is there another way I can find one that fits me?

Response: 

Cartier offers a wide range of many of the most frequently requested sizes for each of the models of Cartier ring in existence. Given that this range has not necessarily always been expanded to the full for each of our models, we provide you with the opportunity to make a personalized order. Delivery times for personalized orders will be advised at time order based on model selected.

Question: 

The Cartier After-Sales Service has informed me that my piece jewelry cannot be autheticated by Cartier. However, I am personally convinced of its authenticity.

Response: 

A detailed examination of your piece of jewelry undertaken by Cartier jewelers has not enabled them to determine that your piece of jewelry was produced by Cartier. Your model shows esthetic and technical differences in relation to our creations. Furthermore, it may not have an engraved individual number, as is the case for all our creations, or the appropriate number for the model. This individual number enables us to ensure the traceability of jewelry from the moment of its production and on the occasion of all other operations on it undertaken by our workshops.

Question: 

Is it nevertheless possible to have it repaired by Cartier?

Response: 

As we are unable to authticate the model, it is not possible for us to undertake a repair. This is also the case for any Cartier creation that has been modified by a third party.

Question: 

Can I have a piece of Cartier jewelry engraved?

Response: 

Cartier engraves its jewelry creations, provided that there is a large enough surface available and no risk of damaging the creation concerned. This service is provided at our boutiques and also through our online e-Boutique, for certain types of creations and models.
