Women with initiative have been a source of inspiration and creativity for Cartier for more than 160 years. In recognition of this contribution, in 2006 the Maison teamed up with the Women's Forum, McKinsey & Company and INSEAD business school to create the Cartier Women's Initiative Awards.
Every year this international business plan competition awards a female entrepreneur from each of the six regions (Latin America, North America, Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East & North Africa, and Asia-Pacific).
The contest is aimed at creative start-ups that are financially viable and socially responsible, run by women of all nationalities and from all sectors.
18 Finalists are invited to present their business plan to an international jury during the Women's Forum in Deauville, France. The six Laureates each receive one year of coaching, US $20,000 in funding, networking opportunities and media exposure.
The first set of Laureates were awarded in 2007. Over 100 finalists have since benefited from coaching and support, with 38 of these women who earn the title of Laureate.
