CARE RECOMMENDATIONS

• • DAY-TO-DAY WEARING

  You are advised not to wear a bracelet on the same wrist as your watch, in order to preserve the shine of the polished surfaces and precious stones.

  • EVERY DAY CLEANING

  Whether your Cartier watch is water resistant or not, you can clean it with a soft, dry cloth.

  • CHANGING THE BATTERY

  The average lifetime of your battery is 2 to 3 years. We advise you never to leave an old battery in your watch, as its degradation may impair the watch’s movement.
  We recommend that you only have your batteries changed by an approved Cartier After-Sales Service.
  For a water resistant watch, in order to retain the guarantee related to water resistance, a water resistance test must be performed by an approved Cartier After-Sales Service following each occasion on which the watch is opened. This check is included in the battery changing service proposed by Cartier-approved After-Sales Service centers.

  • WATER RESISTANCE

  Your certified Water Resistant watch is rendered waterproof by a series of seals. Their effectiveness may deteriorate due to natural ageing. Approved Cartier After-Sales Services are able to check the water resistance of your Cartier watch.
  It is particularly advised to regularly perform this check when the watch is worn during sports or when it comes into frequent contact with water (once a year or before holiday periods, for example).
  Regular water resistance checks will determine whether or not the seals are still effective. Should the water resistance be found to be unsatisfactory, the waterproofing seals will be replaced. Under normal conditions of use, it is recommended to renew the waterproofing seals every 2 years, to ensure optimum safety.
  Before any contact with water, ensure that the crown is not pulled out. The push buttons (chronograph, minute repeater, second time zone) must not be used while your watch is exposed to water.
  Finally, if condensation appears under the glass of your water resistant Cartier watch, its water resistance is damaged. We advise you to quickly contact a Cartier-approved After-Sales Service to resolve this problem.
  The term Water Resistant is reserved for watches that have successfully undergone the 3-bar water pressure test. This test reproduces normal immersion conditions at a water depth of 30 metres.
  Some of our Pasha de Cartier, Roadster and 21 Chronoscaph watches are tested at 10 bars, which is equivalent to 100 metres deep in normal immersion conditions. In this case, the indications 100m and 330 feet appear on the back of the case of your Cartier watch.

  • THE MOVEMENT

  We advise you to arrange for the movement of your watch to be checked every 5 years by an approved Cartier After-Sales Service, to ensure that it maintains its full precision and reliability.
  The movement of your watch needs to be cleaned periodically. Changes in the viscosity of the oil (the extent to which the oil dries out after a certain time) may generate friction and affect the precision of the mechanism (slow, fast, stopping).
  Therefore, if your watch is noticeably fast or slow, the movement may need to be serviced. It may be necessary to service the movement within 5 years, depending on the amount and type of use.
  In the event that your watch is not used for several months, we recommend that you wind it regularly to prevent the oil from thickening.

  • CHANGING A LEATHER OR RUBBER STRAP

  We recommend that you only have a leather strap changed by a Cartier-approved After-Sales Service. This ensures the use of a strap that fits the shape of the case perfectly, giving the final touch of quality to your Cartier watch. You will also be sure of the authenticity of the tang buckles and adjustable deployant buckles fitted on your strap.
  The care and tests that we dedicate to our leather bracelets ensure that they are of the finest quality. Under normal conditions of use, a leather Cartier strap will last an average of 6 to 12 months. However, contact with water or any other liquid may cause premature wear of the strap.
  As with leather straps, the care and tests that we at Cartier dedicate to our rubber straps ensure that they are of the finest quality. Under normal conditions of use, a rubber Cartier strap will last an average of 18 months. However, a dense urban environment and intense exposure to sun may cause premature deterioration of the strap. Contact with cosmetic varnishes must be avoided. For everyday cleaning of your rubber strap, use soapy water.

  • MAINTENANCE OF METAL BRACELETS

  Adjusting your watch so that it fits closely to your wrist will reduce the wear of your metal bracelet.
  In order to keep the metal bracelet of your watch in good condition and ensure a maximum lifetime, we advise you to clean it every two months if you wear it on a daily basis, using the metal bracelet kit.
  If you have purchased a Cartier watch on a metal bracelet, this metal bracelet kit can be obtained free of charge from our boutiques, upon request.
  Before cleaning, ensure that the crown of your watch is not pulled out.
  Precautions for use: as with any flammable material, the metal bracelet kit must be kept away from sources of heat. Do not smoke while using the box.

  • MAGNETIC FIELDS

  Our environment is increasingly subject to interference from magnetic sources. This interference may affect the functioning of your watch, whether its movement is mechanical or quartz.
  A quartz watch may be affected when it enters a strong magnetic field, but will resume normal operation once it leaves that field. Therefore, the interference lasts for the amount of time that your watch is within the magnetic field.
  A mechanical watch is also sensitive to strong magnetic fields. The field may, in some cases, cause the steel parts of the movement, and more particularly the spiral hairspring, to become magnetised. Some parts may stick together causing the watch to become very fast or stop. In this case, you will need to take your watch to a Cartier-approved After-Sales Service which will demagnetize the affected parts.
