Cartier makes innovative use of straw marquetry in watchmaking, decorating the dial of the Rotonde de Cartier watch with a koala motif. Blades of straw in different sizes and shades are juxtaposed to produce effects of volume and depth. Each of the materials is dyed and assembled on the dial to convincingly recreate the look of fur, alert eyes, and a lifelike koala.

Case in 18K rhodiumized white gold set with brilliant-cut diamonds, beaded crown set with a diamond, sapphire crystal, 18K yellow gold dial, straw marquetry koala motif, rhodiumized-steel apple-shaped hands. Alligator-skin strap, 16 mm double adjustable deployant buckle in 18K rhodiumized white gold. Mechanical Manufacture movement with manual winding, caliber 9601 MC, water-resistant to 3 bar (30 meters/100 feet). Limited and numbered edition.
Case dimensions: 35 mm diameter, 10 mm thickness.
