THE STORY
"We are ours now" was the message engraved on the engagement ring given by Edward VIII to Wallis Simpson in 1936. But his position as king and head of the Anglican church prevented him from marrying the elegant American, twice divorced.
Forced to choose between his duty and the woman he loved, the king soon made his decision: less than one month after he acceded to the throne he abdicated and, as Duke of Windsor, married Wallis Simpson at the Château de Candé, in France on June 3, 1937. The Duke and Duchess of Windsor lived out a vibrant love story that was often expressed in their shared passion for jewelry.
